Pastors’ Wives (PW) and women in ministry are incredible sources of wisdom and creativity as they use their gifts in leadership and service. I highly value their insight, faithfulness, and diligent labor. That’s why I’m hosting Wednesdays Are for Women. Each week, we’ll hear from a different PW or
ministry leader and gain her perspective on God’s activity on her ministry team, her local church, or the issues facing church leaders today.
Today, we’ll hear from Amy Hickman from Lifesong Church in Lyman, S.C. Check out what she has to say about the importance of investing into her ministry team.
Probably everyone can identify with wanting to be valued. When we feel like we matter, quite simply…we perform better. After almost 15 years in ministry, learning how to intentionally value the team with whom God has surrounded us has probably been one of the most crucial steps we could have taken. My husband even recently spoke to this when he said, “It is difficult to convince someone that you really care about something when you put very little effort forth to make it a priority.” This is so true!
It is well worth our time to discover ways to make time with Team a priority. Why? People, and in this case, our Team, need to know they matter! For us, we very frequently implement what we call “the gift of hanging out.” There’s no scientific formula, often no detailed plan, but we simply schedule times to hang out with our team and share life together. By doing so, we have a front row seat to understand how we can further invest in them. We often look for even more creative and challenging ways to do this, and finding conferences where we can grow together is a MUST!
Velocity, the annual Churchplanters.com conference, has been one such time for us. As we attended last year, all we all further ignited our passion for the vision of LifeSong Church…including our team of Pastors’ wives (PW’s). Velocity provided our Pastor’ wives with a unique opportunity to be intentional in building our own team. As Tricia Lovejoy shared her “Best Practices for PWs,” each of us was later able to discuss which one spoke to us
individually and how we would contribute what we learned to our own Team.
Intentionality… For us, making our Team a priority has had huge results. A healthy team is a productive team. What step will you take to strengthen your own Team? Make signing up for Velocity 2012 the first step you take!
