Belong and Become Stories: A Captured Heart

Changed lives.  Restored friendships.  Rescued marriages. Renewed hearts.  Salvations.  Baptisms.

God has been faithful to the people of Mountain Lake Church as they have sought to honor him.  Those phrases represent real people….real situations…..real faith-in-action.  I know because I get to hear these stories.  My husband and I get emails that relay life change.  We talk with people who have had their hearts turned upside-down – or, should I say rightside-up?  And, our staff shares these stories as we celebrate all that God is doing in and through our ministries at Mountain Lake.

But, do you know the downside?  YOU don’t get to hear all of them!  Since you don’t get to sit in my hubby’s office or read our emails or listen to our conversations, you miss out on these God-sized stories.  Well, not this week.  This week, I’m going to share some Belong and Become moments with you.  Stories of people Belonging in healthy relationships with God and others and Becoming more like Jesus each day.

Today, I want you to hear Sheryl Kennedy’s story.  Sheryl emailed me a couple of months ago to let me know what God was doing in the life and heart of her family.  Check out what she wrote:

Hi Shawn and Tricia,

After the service on Sunday I wanted to let you know how much you have impacted my husband and I since coming to Mountain Lake Church 4 years ago.  I will just put a few things because I’m sure you don’t have time to read an entire book.

1. Joining a Life_Group helped our marriage tremendously and got us on the right track.

2. Going on a mission to Malawi changed our way of thinking about everything!  We have kept in touch with two Pastors there who we met through Kindle.  We are starting a non-profit to help support the center that they named after my business here, Angels on Call, Inc. (a non-medical care for new moms when they come home from the hospital with a new baby) .

3. I have decided to continue my education to receive my CNA and possibly continue to receive a full nursing degree.  This will enhance my abilities within my career and company and possibly enable me to be more equipped for our next trip to Africa.

4.  Even retirement has changed for us.  My husband retires from his job in a year after 30 years at the same company, and we have plans to go where ever God calls us to teach or work.

We wanted to let you know how much of what you are doing has helped us see God’s plan for ourselves more clearly.

Wow!  Sheryl and her husband are experience major life change.  God has revealed Himself to them, and they cannot resist Him.  Did you catch that last one?  They are literally giving up their retirement to serve our Father.  Oh, but I bet they don’t think their giving anything up….I bet they feel like they’ve gained an abundant life.  Thanks, Sheryl, for sharing your Belong and Become Story.  You’ve inspired and encouraged me.  I love God in YOU!

Do you have a Belong and Become Story?  Stay tuned this week to read about more people living out their faith in real world.

About Tricia Lovejoy

My name is Tricia Lovejoy. I am a passionate follower of Jesus. I believe the Bible. My goal is to live my life by its standard and teach others to do the same. I am married to Shawn Lovejoy. He’s the Lead Pastor of Mountain Lake Church (MLC) in Cumming, Ga. He’s an outstanding man and the answer to my prayers. I’m his world. I know because he tells me that everyday. We have 3 fabulous kids who make us laugh. As we raise them I can’t help but think they’ve raised us a little bit, too. We started MLC in 2000 and have reveled in every moment since. The pace has been fast, so some of those moments zoomed past. We created MLC for people who are disconnected from Christ and the church for any number of reasons. Here's my challenge: don't let misconceptions about God or bad experiences with people prevent you from knowing the One who created you. I laugh at inappropriate things…and at inappropriate times. I’m social, so being with people gives me energy. That’s a good thing, since I’m in the ministry. I’m a thinker more than a feeler. I’m a rule-follower who breaks outside the box every now and then. I have a “glass half full” view of life. All in all, my life is good, full, content, and satisfying. View all posts by Tricia Lovejoy
